The
bleak pronouncement of martial law on September
21, 1972 did not dampen the energy and resolve
of 11 youngsters in Fairview to organize
themselves into a group dedicated to giving
praise and homage to the Lord through lively
gospel music.
Christened the People
Precious and Few Choir, this group
instantly embarked on a mission of joy and
life giving by singing their hearts out
in a makeshift Fairview chapel which was
actually an automotive motor pool at that
time.
They eventually made their
mark as modernists or music heralds of the
times, especially to the parish youth attending
the Sunday services, for giving vent to
their creative urge to add life and luster
to the standard arrangement of church songs.
Undaunted by an occasional admonition or
sanction here and then, they chose to extend
their musical fervor to holding no less
than ten charity concerts, some in Ilocos,
Iloilo and Tagaytay, the last of which contributed
to the rise of the present parish of Inang
Saklolo. They now have 2 CDs to their name,
Ama Namin and Mga
Himig Misa, putting to good use the
proceeds to launch a scholarship program
for indigent high school students.
Now on its 33rd year, the
People Precious and Few Choir continues
to serve the parish community in the regular
masses, Lenten presentations and pastoral
visitations, and endlessly proclaiming the
goodness of the Lord through the magic of
their music and the wonder of their song.
